Mark A. Skeldon

A Legacy of Advocacy

Mark A. Skeldon is the founder of Skeldon Law, a community-based law firm serving Toledo, Sandusky, and communities throughout Ohio. With over a decade of legal experience, Mark focuses his practice on civil litigation against individual and corporate defendants, specializing in personal injury, complex injury, motor vehicle accidents, and consumer law.

A Different Kind of Attorney

Before becoming an attorney, Mark spent years as an elementary school educator with Toledo Public Schools, teaching third through fifth grade at Ella P. Stewart Academy for Girls and Martin Luther King, Jr. Academy for Boys. As a teacher, he led the Student Assistance Team, a council of teachers, school psychologists, and administrators who collaborated with parents to provide students with special learning needs the resources and tools for success, including Individual Education Plans (IEP) and 504 Plans.

This experience gave Mark an advanced understanding of disparity and access to necessary social service resources within the community. It shaped his philosophy of law: that quality legal representation should be accessible within the community one calls home. Today, that same collaborative, resource-focused approach defines how he advocates for clients whose lives have been disrupted by the negligence of others.

Deep Toledo Roots

Mark grew up in a working-class family in West Toledo. His parents, Marty Skeldon and Mary Chris Zychowicz Skeldon, instilled in him the importance of hard work and treating others as he would want to be treated. Both the Skeldon and Zychowicz families have a long, proud history of serving the Toledo community, values that Mark carries into his practice every day.

Mark and his wife, Jennifer Maczuga Skeldon, who also grew up in a working-class family, have worked to instill these same values in their daughters, Meghan and Kate. The couple now lives in Sandusky, where Mark is proud to serve both his hometown of Toledo and his adopted community along Lake Erie.

Education & Training

Mark is a graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School, where he was active in football and track. He earned his Bachelor of Education from The University of Toledo, where he was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity and served on the executive board while balancing his studies with part-time jobs.

Mark earned his Juris Doctorate from The University of Toledo College of Law, graduating cum laude with top grades. While in law school, he served in the Civil Advocacy Clinic (formerly the Legal Clinic), providing direct legal representation, under the supervision of clinical faculty, to clients within the community who could not afford private legal counsel. The clinic allowed Mark to deepen his knowledge of civil advocacy and gain mentorship from practicing attorneys, prosecutors, and judges.

Beyond the Office

When he’s not advocating for clients, Mark can be found improving his golf swing, kayaking in Sandusky Bay, rooting for the Detroit Lions, Pistons, and U.T., or walking his Jack Russell terrier, Carl. He’s the proud father of two daughters, one studying at Kent State University and another attending Capital Law School in Columbus, Ohio.

Professional Involvement

Mark maintains active involvement in professional, legal, and business organizations that reflect his commitment to excellence in the practice of law and to the communities Skeldon Law serves. He is a member of the American Bar Association and the Ohio State Bar Association, where he stays engaged with evolving legal standards and best practices.

At the regional and local levels, Mark is a member of the Toledo Bar Association and the Erie County Bar Association, reinforcing his connection to the courts, colleagues, and clients throughout northwest Ohio and Erie County.

He is also a member of the Ohio Association for Justice, an organization dedicated to protecting the rights of individuals and ensuring access to justice for those harmed by negligence.

Beyond the legal profession, Mark is actively engaged in the business and civic life of the region through his membership in the Greater Sandusky Partnership, reflecting Skeldon Law’s commitment to community involvement and regional economic vitality.
